Here in Abu Dis we have been meeting in small groups and working on speaking English.  It’s big ask but the social aspect of the learning is amazing. 

Here we are in Dar Assedaqa – notice the tiramisu Janan made and the chocolates that Nandita sent for Kefah. Eating delicious food has been a big theme ever since Yaz, Flo and I arrived in Palestine.

We are meeting most days from Saturday to Wednesday in Dar Assedaqa at 5.30.  I’m finding the group gets talking well when we have about 8 people and there is a buzz while people talk in pairs. When we have only 3 and people are shy it is harder for them to get talking with everybody listening but we have begun developing stories and that works with fewer people.   When another volunteer comes with that encourages chat and we can chat together using the target language and give people more listening time.  Communicating without translation is a wonderful thing, but the feedback is that folk really want someone to be there who is confident and happy to translate. Jinan is taking this on. She is standing on the right in this picture. She is learning 5 languages and plans to be an interpreter.

Her family all have a great interest in languages. Here is Kefah, Jinan’s mother, singing an Indian song she used to sing when she was a littles. W were talking about things we used to do.

As you can see, there’s a dance that goes with the song.

غادرت البلاد يوم الثلاثاء الموافق 13-3-2018 متوجه الى لندن عن طريق الأردن بيروت وصولاً الى لندن 
يوم الخميس 15 _ 3_ _ 2018  تم الاجتماع في مقر جمعية كادفا وقد تم التعارف فيما بيننا  ثم تحدثنا    عن أهداف المشروع. وقد قمنا خلال البرنامج باستراحه للنزه على تله. ثم عدنا لمقر الجمعيه حيث تحدثنا عن توقعاتنا من الزيارة. ثم تابعنا البرنامج والمناقشه من خلال فعاليه قدمتها الأخت نانتيدا. وبنهايه اليوم قمنا بمناقشه العروض ومتى يكون وقت عرضها.

يوم الجمعه 16-3-2018 توجهنا من لندن الى بندل حيث قمنا بزيارة جامعة نيلسون وتم التعارف على الهيئه التدريسيه والطلاب وناقشنا بعض الأمور التي تخص المسيره التعليميه. ثم انتقلنا الى مدرسة نيلسون الابتدائيه وشاهدنا بعض الحصص وتعرفنا الى طرق وأساليب التدريس فيها. أيضا أخذنا أفكار جديده عن عمل الوسائل ومجلات الحائط بطريقه رائعه. عند الساعه الخامسه توجهنا الى اذاعة المركز الإسلامي الموجوده في بندل وقد تحدثنا فيها عن جدار الفصل العنصري وأثره على العملية التعليميه عند الساعه السابعه توجهنا الى بريفلد لعمل مؤتمر عن حق أطفالنا في التعليم. وتحدثنا أيضا عن الجدار وأثره في العمليه التعليميه
اليوم السبت 17-3-2018 عند الساعه الحادية عشر والنصف صباحاً بتوقيت لندن توجهنا الى جمعيه خيريه في بندل حيث قمنا بجوله تعارفيه فيها وشاهدنا الأعمال الفنيه اللواتي يقمن بها معلمات متقاعدات فقد كانت بغايه الروعه وقد استفدت من هذه الزياره كثيرا عند الساعه الثالثه خرجنا جوله في أنحاء مدينة بندل

قمت بعدد من الزيارات الى مدارس مختلفة في خمس مناطق من بريطانيا (لندن – بندل – نيلسون – نورثامبتون – مانشستر) حيث حضرت حصص رياضيات للصفوف من 6 – 12 وتعرفت على وسائل واستراتيجيات متنوعة  . تجولت بالمدارس وتعرفت على أنشطتها المختلفة . وفي كل مدرسة قمت بعرض باوربوينت عن مدرستي بنات أبوديس الثانوية موضحه الأساليب والاستراتيجيات المستخدمة في التدريس . أيضاً تحدثت عن رؤيا المدرسة وانجازاتها وأنشطتها وتحدثت أيضاً عن سياسة التعليم في فلسطين بشكل عام
قمت بعمل مقابلات بإذاعات متعددة وقناة البي بي سي  وعملت عدة مؤتمرات حيث تحدثت عن أهمية التعليم في فلسطين وقد أدليت بنسبة التعليم فيها والتي بلغت في الاربع سنوات الأخيرة 5’98 %رغم المعاناة والمعيقات التي يواجهها طلالبنا وطالباتنا أثناء مسيرتهم التعليمية من قبل الإحتلال
تحدثدت أيضاً عن بلدتي أبوديس وما تعانيه بسبب جدار الفصل العنصري الذي حرم أهلها من حقهم بالعلاج والتعليم وحقهم في الحرية الدينية وحرية الحركة مع التوثيق بقصص وروايات حقيقية عن المعاناة
قمت أيضاً بلفاءات  جمعنا مع ممثلات اكثر من جمعية نسوية في نورثامبتون في شمال انجلترا 
تجارب متميزة في العمل المجتمعي تستحق الوقوف عندها
من لندن الى مانشستر الى نورثامبتون اجمل اللحظات مع احلى ناس رفعنا العلم في بريفيلد وغنينا موطني باللغة العربية والحرية لفلسطين باللغة الإنجليزية في كامدن ورفعنا العلم في جامعة نورثامبتون وفلسطين كانت حديثنا في البي بي سي المحلية في لندن وفي اذاعة المركز الاسلامي في بريفيلد
التقينا اناس ممثلي مختلف الجمعيات ذات الاساس المجتمعي واناس عاديين وشخصيات لا تنسى مثل سيكوما المحرر السابق لاحدى الصفحات الاقتصادية في الصنداي تايمز وكان لديه الكثير ليقوله بخصوص مساندة الشعب الفلسطيني ورفضه للانتهاكات الاسرائيلية ولا ننسى الكرم الفلسطيني والاخ علاء ابو زناد في نورثامبتون وحفلة العشاء التي جمع فيها الجميع ولا انسى العائلة اللندنية الجميلة ذات الاصول الايرلندية وابنتهم الجميلةسوريكا ابنة العشرين ربيعا التي تلعب دور رئيس اتحاد مناصرة حقوق الفلسطينيين 
لا ننسى فريق ريزد فويس الذي ينشد لفلسطين ومكون من فريق منن المعلمين المتقاعدين واخيرا لا ننسى الاصدقاء كيت سكوت وكيت هيرون وانيكا ملر وسبيل وابتسام وفرانسيس ومايكل 
ول ناديتا داوسن رئيس جمعية كامدن ابو ديس الخيرية كل التحية لهذه السيدة ومجهودها 
جمعية جل عملها تنظيم الفعاليات لتعريف الشعب الانجليزي بانتهاكات حقوق الانسان في فلسطين واخيرا هناك في لندن لما تكون في كامدن في قلب لندن في قلب شارع فورتس لا تنسى الذهاب الى كافيه فلسطين هكذا اسمها على اللافتة يقدمون طعام فلسطيني ويبيعون منتجات تقليدية فلسطينية وريع المقهى يخصص بالاساس لتغطية نفقات جمعية كامدن ابوديس 
يوم 24-3-2018م  في لندن كان يوماً للنزهة والترفيه حيث ذهبنا الى المكتبة البريطانية والمتحف البريطاني الذي شاهدت فيه الكثير من حضارات العرب والمسلمين والفراعنة ثم توجهت الى نهر التايمز حيث ساعة بيج بن ومسرح شكسبير المطل على النهر ثم أبحرت بالسفينة في النهر وصولاً الى خط جرنتش 
في الساعة السابعة مساءاً عدنا الى جمعية كادفا وعملنا مؤتمرنا الأخير الذي كان له الأثر الكبير في نفوس الإنجليز حيث لخصنا فيه معاناة شعبنا من كافة النواحي السياسية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية والتعليمية والصحية والتي يعانيها بشكل يومي من قبل هذا الإحتلال الغاشم 
في الساعة العاشرة مساءاً قمنا بكتابة تقييم لرحلتنا والأهداف التي تم تحقيقها 
يوم 25-3-2018 انتهت رحلتنا وتوجهنا الى خط الرجعه في الساعة السابعة والنصف مساءا 
يوم 29-3-2018 عملت اجتماعاً مع الهيئة التدريسية حيث قمت بتعميم الفائدة المستفادة من الزيارة ونقل طرق الوسائل والاستراتيجيات المتبعة في مدارس بريطاني ا

Bon voyage!

Ten very full days have gone past and the time has come to say goodbye - for the time being - to our Palestinian friends.

Last night, after the Camden Women's Day event,  we had an evaluation meeting. Some felt the visit was slightly long or a bit too busy, but on the whole there was great enthusiasm for the programme, the organisation, the friendliness if hosts and others and the outcomes.  As well as old friends,  the women visitors met many people new to the issue of Palestine and many young people (hundreds of them in schools) : these were particular aims set in our initial workshop on Thurs 14th.

It has been hard to keep up with the blog but we hope to add more even now...

From Northampton. ..

Today has been good. The women’s groups discussion went very well with the reps from the women’s groups saying things like, “ I had no idea all that was going on. It’s been a real eye opener!” They signed up to our mailing list, (including the Town’s Women’s Guild) and I have hopes that one or two will become real activists. One of our aims was to reach non traditional supporters so in a small way that has been achieved. Sowing seeds which will hopefully spread.

Till when?

Even when you knew a bit, it's shocking. Imagine being a Palestinian child in Jerusalem surrounded by soldiers,  settlers, racism and fear. Imagine being a parent worrying if your child is late home. Is there ONE PERSON in Palestine who doesn't know someone wounded or imprisoned by the Israeli army? Is there one person who doesn't know someone who has been KILLED?
Hiyam told us of the pressures there are on every side on Palestinians in Jerusalem  - and she told us too  of the many people with no ID, the difficulties of marriage between people with different coloured IDS,  the difficulties of movement for thousands....The conversation moved to international law and why it cannot protect the Palestinians...And Trump's favouring the Israeli claims... does this change anything or just show the issues more clearly?

تم عقد اجتماع في مقر الجمعيه بلندن حيث تم مناقشة ما يلي:
١-الترحيب بالجميع وتعريف الموجودين على بعض
٢-تعريف الجميع بخطة
الاعمال القادمة وطرح البرنامج
٣-عمل بعالية كسر الجليد بين الفريق
٤-طرح التوقعات من الرحلة والتعرف على أهدافها
٥-خلال الاجتماع تم إعطاء استراحة للذهاب في نزه قريبه من المنطقة حيث تم خلالها مناقشه بعض القضايابمادة العرض لكل شخص  وطريقة العرض وتم الحصول على بعض النصائح للتعامل معها أثناء العرض بحيث تتناسب مع الجميع
ومن ثم العودة الى المقر لمناقشة خطة العمل للأيام القادمة
٦-في نهايه اليوم كان هناك غداء للجميع في المقر شكر لكل من عمل على إنجاح هذا اليوم سلمى عويس

تم الاجتماع في مقر جمعية كادفا وقد تم التعارف فيما بيننا وقد سررت بذلك حيث تم كسر الحاجز وقد تعودنا ععلى بعضنا البعض. ثم تحدثنا عن التوقعات من الزياره.  ثم تناقشنا في أهداف المشروع. وقد قمنا خلال البرننامج باستراحه للنزه على تله. ثم عدنا لمقر الجمعيه وتناولنا وجبة الغداء. ثم تابعنا البرنامج والمناقشه من خلال فعاليه قدمتها الأخت نانتيدا. وبنهايه اليوم قمنا بمناقشه العروض ومتى يكون وقت عرضها. ثم تناولت وجبه العشاء وذهبت للنوم عند أنيكا

Khawla's Day 1 in England

Yesterday was a nice 👍 fruitful day 
the beginning day of our program in UK  under the umbrella of cadfa   Activities, it was wonderful to see Palestine at the central part of london, Camden, by stepping into a wonderful cafe named Palestine in which you see a Palestinian touches their 
By starting with The induction day in which we get into details and discussion with each other and through working groups  was very important and wonderful bcs:
It emphasized the feeling of my ownership of this work  and  made me more involved in this program
And in the meantime I get in touch face to face with friends far away from social media and emails
Through discussions of twinnings between 2 groups in Uk and Palestine and going through details of the  kind of public meetings and their audience and the presentations details, It gave me a good learnt lessons that could be carried with me to Palestine that  big issues like human rights could be promoted by ordinary people, women could do a lot😎
And finally ending your long working day far away from your beloved husband and kids  with a wonderful Palestinian meal like Makloba was a-nice and clever detail.

Palestinian Women Speak Out!

Brilliant to have got to the beginning of our Palestinian women's visit 2018, after a long road... 2 years of fundraising by women in Camden via the Saturday stall at the Brunswick Centre and several months of meetings with our friends and partners from Northampton-Al Bireh, Pendle-Beit Leed and Tower Hamlets-Jenin, many adventures with who would come and who wouldn't ...and now our friends have got here! Here are some pictures that they sent from the airports before they left...

A Palestinian Garden in Kings Cross London*

Let’s make a Palestinian Garden at the Calthorpe Project in Kings Cross London

The Calthorpe Community Garden is in Camden and is a community centre that over the last decade has had strong connections with CADFA and hosted many CADFA events.

Nine years ago, a small olive sapling arrived at the Calthorpe transported on the plane in a ruck sack from Abu Dis, Palestine. Until recently it lived in a container where it grew happily. However, it needed more space to grow and earlier this year our volunteers planted it in the ground and gave it a new home with plenty of space around it.

It looks a bit lonely all by itself. Wouldn’t it be lovely to have it surrounded by indigenous plants and flowers from Palestine and we can have a special CADFA garden here in the heart of London?

We are asking women travelling from Palestine in March to bring seeds with them, so we can sow them together in the greenhouse and they can be planted out when the weather gets warmer. Here are some examples of the beautiful flowers native to Palestine.
